Work Environment: Graduate students in our research group work in a modern, well-equipped building, the new Howe Hall, Engineering Teaching and Research Complex. The various facilities that are available to graduate students in our research group are located on the Facilities page.

Curriculum:  We are always interested in qualified students who are interested in obtaining a Masters or Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics.  To see the catalog description of the courses offered by our department, go to the Iowa State University Course catalog, Engineering Mechanics course offerings for 2003-2005.

Living in Ames: You will find that community life in Ames is quite pleasant. Ames is a community of about 50,000, located in north central Iowa. Despite having a slow paced and relaxed environment, Ames boasts a fine array of cultural activities and entertainment facilities, including the Iowa State Center. Ames has been named the second most livable small city in the nation by the New Rating Guide to Life in America's Small Cities, and provides a true taste of Midwestern life and hospitality.
